ARMY CHIEF DOB CONTROVERSY

Times Now, last evening discussed about the DOB controversy of COAS, Gen V K Singh. Panelist were Lt Gen (Retd) Hoon, (Retd) Shankar Prasad and Frooq Raza. Gen Hoon said COAS should first resign and then fight for the justice. We beg to differ with him and feel COAS should not resign. He must fight it out. As per Supreme Court's ruling and existing policies School leaving certificate is the proof of Date of Birth. Three retired Chief Justice of India have endorsed the same view. It is very easy to criticize and advise others. We fully endorse the views of Major Raza and suggest that COAS, must knock the door of Court for justice, if required.

The coas has lowered the standards of behavior and veterans like me hang our head in shame by this controversy.
1.will he allow hundreds of servicemen to open up such cases of DOB if they have doubt?
2. Rule says he should have contested in the 1st 2 yrs of service on DOB as per rules. These rules were framed by the Govt.Again, why he accepted DOB which he perceived as wrong before becoming corps comdr and instead not filed a statutory complaint? He kept quiet till he became COAS.
3.By his action is he giving right to an Army offr to do what he is doing to go to press/media/ politicians/jurists if that person is aggrieved by any decision of the service.
4. Sadly bureaucrats like the DSecy seem to be laughing and saying you may b chief but we decide your fate.
5 i am not too sure if there was another reason in giving DOB 1 year late at time of entry. He has started the guessing game.
6.This case has a parallel in stubbornness with Vishnu Bhagwat.
7. 3 ex COAS r supporting him, but the last 3 of them have got embroiled in controversies which could have been avoided and save face to the Armed Forces.the question is Does service comes before self or vice-versa

@subhash:A legal fact is a legal fact. Legal facts are established through due process. Where is the need to dramatise the matter by using words like 'shame'? Besides, which hundreds of servicemen have doubts. If they have proof, they too can knock on the doors of the Hon'ble Supreme Court. One simply sees no merit in the argument that there is a controversy in seeking a legal remedy.

DOB as mentioned in the certificate issued by the Board after class x exam is the final DOB irrespective of
his actual DOB.Babus and their Netas
can not dictate another DOB against DOB mentioned in the certificate.
COAS must fight it out in the court. It is a fight against injustice
hence,we should be proud and not hang head in shame. My only question as to why it took 40 yrs to settle the disput?
