Dear Veterans,
The Governing Body of Retired Defence Officers Association (RDOA) has decided to support the movement of Shri Anna Hazare against corruption and his fight for the 'Jan Lokpal Bill'.
To support his movement at the Ramlila Grounds, Delhi, all member veterans in and around NCR are requested to reach the venue on Sunday 21 Aug 2011 at 1015 hrs. It would be appreciated if you can wear Regtl Cap, miniature medals.
The nation is on the move and we must fully support it. Shri Anna Hazare is a veteran too.

The Jan Lok Pal Bill has been already tabled as a private member's bill by two separate MPs, the establishment has shown more than just an inclination to shake off the foot-in-mouth syndrome it appeared to be afflicted with earlier on. Given the controversial nature of pronouncements from some of the worthies hogging the lime light, perhaps the ESM community could reflect and introspect a bit longer before deciding to support something which may turn out to be an unknown commodity.
I am in agreement with corona8. While I appreciate the RDOA's call, I have certain misgivings about both the Lokpal Bills - Govt and Anna Hazare versions. When asking us to join in large numbers would some one in RDOA elucidate - why should we support the Anna Hazare version? Whether Anna stating that "my way or the highway is correct? What are the infirmities in the Govt versions and what the Govt should/could do? Whether the Jan Lokpal Bill has any weaknesses and whether the present stand is correct? Were there infirmities in the Referendum conducted in Chandni Chowk and Amethi? Why isn't Anna also taking up the Black money issue, so eloquently stated in the Rajya Sabha by Ram Jethmalani?
The Jan Lokpal Bill almost covers all the salient points, required in a good bill. However, some minor refinements can be brought in during discussion in Parliament. But one thing is certain that unless the appointment and working of Lokpal Organisation is independent of the persons who are to be investigated, it will have no meaning.Anna's Lokpal Bill takes care of this. We,Veterans must support it.

"..We,Veterans must support it..."
Not that it's going to make the slightest difference, it is expected of us to also stand up and be counted when anyone is speaking against corruption.
But our supporting something or not supporting it needs to be viewed against the context of possible undercurrents.
Our 'honest-soldier' simplistic views may not apply in this particular case.
Hence my note of caution.
